January 31, 2007 Hi Olga,
Great website. I found out about it through another researcher. Below are photos of Burgdorf DP camp. My father, born in Bolechiw (now in Ukraine) was in Burgdorf prior to emigrating to England and from there to Canada. Any information or guidance anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. From your website, I got the address for the archive in Celle and have written there. Daria / Canada, email: dariadv@yahoo.ca

  Burgdorf tractor
This photo (circa 1947) is in front of the barracks my father, Wasyl Makota, while living in Burgdorf camp. My father is the one with curly dark hair and overalls, standing behind the man sitting on his suitcase.  I asked my father why the men were in suits and had suitcases and he explained that it was likely an emigration to either Australia or England.

If you recognize the other men, write in to us.
While in the Burgdorf camp, my father worked as a driver for the British Timber Company.  One of his colleagues was a mechanic, Roman Gibaylo, who subsequently emigrated to Australia.

Here Mr. Gibaylo is on a tractor belonging to the British Timber Company.

These two photos were taken around 1946-47 during Ukrainian mass in Burgdorf camp.

Taken in front of the barracks in Burgdorf, Wasyl Makota is on the right,  Roman Gibaylo is in the center, and father does not recall the name of the man on the left, but believes he is from Bolechiw, Ukraine.
